Erin Modern Farmhouse Bungalow
Erin Modern Farmhouse Bungalow
Nestled among rolling hills and mature evergreens, this custom modern farmhouse bungalow in Erin, Ontario is a story of thoughtful transformation and intentional design. What began as a renovation and addition to a century-old log home ultimately became a full custom rebuild, allowing the homeowners to create a space designed for long-term living, comfort, and connection to the surrounding landscape.
Working closely with the homeowners, Ever After Homes guided the project through a complete re-design, preserving meaningful elements of the original home while creating a new structure built to modern performance standards. The result is a light-filled bungalow that blends timeless farmhouse character with clean, modern detailing. At the heart of the home is an open-concept great room featuring soaring 20-foot cathedral ceilings, expansive rear-facing windows, and uninterrupted views of the pond and escarpment beyond. The kitchen, dining, and living spaces flow seamlessly together, creating a warm and functional gathering space ideal for both everyday living and entertaining.
Sustainability and storytelling were key design drivers throughout the home. Salvaged materials from the original structure were thoughtfully repurposed, including antique stained glass now featured in the primary suite, a hand-hewn beam reimagined as a fireplace mantel, and a preserved brick cellar wall and steel door that now anchor the basement staircase as a striking architectural feature.
The main-floor primary suite offers vaulted ceilings, tranquil views, and a spa-inspired ensuite designed for aging in place. The finished lower level provides additional bedrooms, flexible living space, and custom details that echo the home’s rural setting.
Throughout the home, warm European white oak flooring, white shaker cabinetry, black-framed windows, and natural wood accents strike a refined balance between modern farmhouse and elevated rural living.
